2016 Chevy Colorado Diesel Review, something new for your eyes. The Colorado is the newest truck in Chevy’s roster being released back in 2014 as a 2015 model. However, despite the fact that it is quite new, Chevy is going to update it for the first time with the Chevy Colorado 2016 model. This update comes so close after its launch because GM wants to give the car a new engine which is going to equip the higher end trims of the truck. This has already been released a few months ago but it won’t go on sale for at least a couple more months.
2016 Chevy Colorado Exterior and Interior
Just like before, the new model is available with either rear wheel drive or all wheel drive. However, in both cases there are no limited slip differentials or even lockable units. In fact, GM gave the truck an intelligent braking system which will brake the wheel that is spinning. The total ground clearance isn’t all that great either with the base truck being quite low to the ground mostly because is has a frontal air deflector.
This could easily be changed by removing it or opting for the Z71 model which is the off-road version of the truck. This comes with a higher ground clearance, black plastic protections on the fenders as well as on the front and rear bumpers, smaller wheels with all terrain tires as well as bigger brakes, all needed for an off-road vehicle.
On the interior of the truck GM didn’t really make a lot of changes mostly because they weren’t really needed. The dashboard features a new design which is quite nice and the materials used on it are quite good. The standard infotainment system on the other hand has been upgraded to GM’s all new Android based unit which should be both faster as well as easier to use. Just like before, the truck is quite comfortable and well above the average of its class when it comes to the room inside the cabin. The only drawback we see with the 2016 Chevy Colorado is the fact that the higher end trims of the truck are quite expensive and sometimes they cost even more than some full size trucks.
Engine wise, nothing really changed for the 2016 Chevy Colorado with a minor exception. The base is still the same naturally aspirated 2.5 liter inline 4 which is quite powerful for its size at 200 horsepower and 191 lb-ft of torque. The option comes in the form of a bigger and more powerful 3.6 liter V6, good for 305 horsepower and 269 lb-ft of torque. The latter engine is in fact capable of towing up to 7000 pounds which is quite impressive for a truck this small. Both of them come as standard with a 6 speed manual while a 6 speed automatic is only available as an option.
The news come in the form of the brand new 2.8 liter inline 4 diesel which thanks to a turbocharger it is capable of 200 horsepower and 360 lb-ft of torque which is nearly better than the engine of a full size truck. This engine comes with its own 8 speed automatic and it is only available on the higher end trims. With this engine equipped, the 2016 Chevy Colorado should be rated to tow up to 10,000 pounds which is mighty impressive.
2016 Chevy Colorado Price
The base price for the new trim level is unknown just yet but considering the engine employed in it, around $29,000 are expected. On top of that, the new 2016 Chevy Colorado received minor updates to its styling, a new trim level which is only going to be available with certain engines as well as new gadgets on the interior. The chassis on the other hand remained unchanged and this is quite normal considering how new the truck is to the market.
