The new 2016 Ford Shelby GT350R-C Mustang has been on the market for quite some time already and despite what some people are saying, it has to be one of the most impressive sports cars of all time and the high performance GT350R model is likely the most advanced car that came from such a larger manufacturer like Ford. It is the first car to be mass produced that has carbon fiber wheels, it comes with a lot of carbon fib er body panels and it also has one of the most impressive naturally aspirated engines in the World.
When they released it, Ford also stated that they are going to race the car in different events, so a LeMans racer is not out of the question. This track version is going to be the Ford Shelby GT350R-C Mustang Race Car 2016 which will be based on the R road version but it will come with a lot of improvements that are meant to make it better for track use.
Engine of 2016 Ford Shelby GT350R-C Mustang
Just like with the road car, the 2016 Ford Shelby GT350R-C Mustang will come with the same engine as well as a very similar design but the car will come with a completely new running gear with different bushings, shocks and springs as well as a full inch lower ride height which should help it be more competitive. The biggest problem we see with the race model is that it will not feature the carbon wheels but rather some specially designed titanium rims that will be heavier but these should be cheaper to make as well as easier to replace. Also, the car will come with all new carbon-ceramic brakes which are needed for racing and high speed cornering.
Engine wise, the racing model will use the same naturally aspirated flat-crank 5.2 liter V8 which in the road going model provides around 500 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque. The racing version of the car on the other hand will offer around 550 horsepower and a similar amount of torque to the road-going version which should be more than enough to make it just as fast as the competition. There is no word yet about the gearbox of the car but it is quite possible that it will not offer the same gearbox as the road going version. In fact, it will likely use a sequential 6 speed gearbox and it will offer rear wheel drive with a limited slip differential which should offer quite a bit of traction to the car.
Exterior of 2016 Ford Shelby GT350R-C Mustang
The exterior of the 2016 Ford Shelby GT350R-C Mustang Car will be quite similar to that of the road going version. However, the front and rear ends are going to be completely different with the race car getting an all new front bumper with a massive splitter while in the back there is going to be a big diffuser, both of which should improve grip by quite a big margin. A spoiler is also going to be installed in the back but this will be different depending on where the car is going to be used. Unlike the road car, the GT350R-C will get a full carbon fiber body which should further reduce weight and increase its structural rigidity.
On the inside the 2016 Ford Shelby GT350R-C Mustang will have nothing in common with the road going version. The car will feature a full steel roll-cage needed for racing it in perfect safety, lightweight glass on the entire car as well as racing seats with 6 point-harnesses as well as a multifunctional steering wheel. Air conditioning will likely not be offered and the dashboard will only feature a fully digital instrument cluster just behind the steering wheel that will offer all the information its driver needs.
