The 2016 Subaru Impreza Sport Hybrid is a compact hatchback which has been around for quite some time and even though the current model is has nothing in common with the older rally inspired cars, it still is a great car for the money. However, being released back in 2011 it is quite old and it would require some attention from Subaru. However, the car has only been released in Japan and from what it looks like, it has to be one of the better hybrid cars to date mostly because it doesn’t have the dull design of the Prius and it actually looks quite sporty despite the fact it is a hybrid.
2016 Subaru Impreza Sport Hybrid Engine Specs
Engine wise, the Sport Hybrid uses the same engine as the XV Hybrid and the US model will likely stick to that engine. Even though Subaru hasn’t said anything about its output, the engine will most likely make the same amount of power as the one in the XC, so expect around 160 horsepower and 163 lb-ft of torque which is not much but it is certainly more than the output of its main competitor, the Prius. Thanks to this engine and a CVT gearbox, the Subaru Impreza Sport Hybrid 2016 will offer a 0 to 60 MPH time of around 7.5 seconds and a top speed of nearly 125 MPH which is a lot more impressive than the Prius.
However, unlike the Prius it will not be able to run in an all electric mode and due to the fact it will come as standard with all wheel drive, the fuel consumption will be worse. How much worse though we don’t know for sure but considering the XV, it is safe to assume that the Sport Hybrid will achieve around 33 to 35 MPG on average which is not great but it is a lot better than many other cars in its price range.
Exterior of 2016 Subaru Impreza Sport Hybrid
The exterior of the car will not be based on that of the 2017 model of the Impreza but it will actually be pretty much identical to the XV with some body panels replaced. It will not get the flared wheel arches or the bulky front and rear bumpers but it will get more aerodynamic bumpers which should make the car both better looking as well as faster and more efficient. The wheels will be unique 18 spoke 17 inch light alloys with low rolling resistance tires fitted to them, so the car will be quiet and fuel efficient, not just fast. However, the usual dual exhaust system will be replaced with a hidden exhaust in the right side which is a bit of a shame.
Interior of 2016 Subaru Impreza Sport Hybrid
On the interior on the other hand, the 2016 Subaru Impreza Sport Hybrid will follow closely the XV crossover, so expect the same dashboard and a similar layout for the seats which is actually quite good especially when you consider the fact that the XV is both spacious and has a lot of quality materials inside the cabin. As standard it will come with adaptive cruise control, Subaru’s TwinEye system which will monitor the road ahead for potential crashes as well as it will offer the driver information about what is behind the car via a rear mounted camera.
2016 Subaru Impreza Sport Hybrid Release Date and Price
The good news is that Subaru has announced that a new model is on the way and it seems that this new model is likely going to be launched by the end of this year while the market availability will start in the Spring of 2016 while the special edition models and the hybrid model will follow some time at the end of 2016. The price will remain true to that of the current model so expect to pay around $19,000 for a base car in the US. The 2016 Subaru Impreza Sport Hybrid on the other hand is likely going to fetch little over $25,000 which is still great value for money considering it will be similarly equipped to a mid-range model.
