2017 Volvo S90 interior, price, release date… – Volvo is the best known Swedish car manufacturer in the World and one of the best manufacturers when it comes to safe and luxurious cars. Their flagship up until now was the S80 which was built on a front wheel drive platform. This succeeded the old 960 which in its turn was named the S90 near its discontinuation date. Because Volvo decided to build more efficient and luxurious cars, the S80 just doesn’t make much sense considering it is built on an already ancient problem.
In order to get another big luxurious vehicle on the market the Swedish manufacturer is going to release the Volvo S90 2017, an all new car which will in fact be using an all new platform. This is likely going to be derived from the one of the new XC90 and it should use more aluminum so the weight of the car will go down in comparison with the S80.
2017 Volvo S90 Price
The actual design of the car is unknown at this point and there are not that many official details about it just yet but a car has been spied testing and it seems that this next generation model is going to be slightly larger than the old S80. On top of that, the price is likely going to be vastly different with the base model being expected to come at more than $50,000 while a fully loaded 2017 Volvo S90 will likely fetch well over $80,000 which is Mercedes E Class territory.
Exterior and Interior of 2017 Volvo S90
The exterior of this new 2017 Volvo S90 car, while currently under wraps, is likely going to be heavily based on that of the XC90 as well as that of the Concept Coupe which has been released back in 2013. Expect a similar front end to the XC90 but with a sleeker general design. In fact, we think that the S90 is quite possibly going to adopt a coupe-like design with a long hood, a sloped roof and short back end which would give the impression of a really aggressive car.
On the inside, the Volvo S90 2017 will quite possibly adopt a very minimalistic design with a refined dashboard that sill only sport a few buttons and one big 12 inch touch-screen that will control most of its functions like the air conditioning, satellite navigation and even the infotainment system. The materials will be on par with those of its competitors so expect leather, aluminum and wood while some special edition models could get even better with titanium or carbon fiber inserts.
2017 Volvo S90 Engine Horsepower
Engine wise, the 2017 Volvo S90 will very likely use the same engines as those in the XC90 SUV, so expect the same 2 liter turbocharged and supercharged inline 4 in the base version, engine which is quite capable with an expected output of well over 300 horsepower and 290 lb-ft of torque. The better choice will likely be the hybrid which still uses the same petrol engine but it also adds electric motors which are capable of boosting the total output to more than 400 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque which is very impressive considering how small the engine is.
A diesel with 225 horsepower and 370 lb-ft of torque might also be offered in Europe and some parts of Asia. All of these engines will be offered as standard with an 8 speed automatic gearbox as well as all wheel drive which is needed considering the power of the 2 liter mills. The only downside we see with its powertrain is the fact that the car will not be based on a rear wheel drive chassis meaning that it will not drive as good as a BMW or Mercedes but it will certainly be on par with Audi in this regard.
